Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapy Evaluations

At Leading Therapy Home we offer comprehensive occupational therapy assessments for children. The evaluation allows us to develop a comprehensive understanding of the child's skills, challenges, and preferences. An occupational therapy evaluation is recommended if your child is experiencing any of the following:

Sensory seeking behavior (toe-walking, difficulty with physical boundaries, etc.)

Difficulty wearing a variety of clothing or shoes

Oversensitivity to noise, sound, touch, light, and movement

Delayed or messy handwriting or difficulty holding a crayon or pencil

Difficulty using two hands together or manipulating small toys

Visual scanning/tracking deficits

Limited diet, refusal to eat most foods

Difficulty paying attention or sitting still

Falls down or bumps into objects often

Intense outbursts and tantrums with possible harm to self or others

Difficulty with self-help skills (dressing, feeding, toilet training, etc.)

Prematurity (e.g. low tone, positioning, motor delays)

Pediatric Occupational Therapy Services

At Leading Therapy Home, we provide occupational therapy for children to support the development of age-appropriate motor coordination, body awareness, hand/eye coordination, sensory processing, visual motor, and self-care skills.

Our pediatric occupational therapist engages children in developmentally appropriate play, learning, functional mobility, and self-care tasks. Using evidence-based, child-directed approaches, occupational therapists provide therapy to a child in their natural environment. Occupation therapy in the natural environment teaches skills while the child participates in meaningful activities. Common disorders and diagnosis treated by our occupational therapists are:

Fine/gross motor delays

Handwriting

Sensory integration and processing disorders

Dyspraxia/developmental coordination disorders

Postural disorders

Motor planning delays

Visual-motor/processing delays

Feeding aversions

Poor body awareness

Cerebral palsy

Down syndrome

Brain injury

Sensory Integration Therapy

Sensory integration therapy is provided by our pediatric occupational therapist. Sensory integration focuses on helping children with sensory processing difficulties improve functioning within their daily lives. A heightened response to sensory information such as sound, light, textures, taste, smells, etc., can make it difficult for a child to function in their environment. Sensory integration therapy is specific to each child's unique sensory profile and will address the child's goals within their natural environment.
