There are many reasons for needing adult speech therapy, including a recent stroke, traumatic brain injury, Parkinson’s disease, dementia, etc. Adult speech therapists often work in collaboration with other therapists and neurologists to help clients regain or maintain memory/cognitive, speech, language, or swallowing skills.

A speech and language evaluation and therapy are recommended if you or your loved one has any of the following symptoms or diagnosis:

Stuttering or disfluent speech

Speech that is difficult to understand (e.g., slurred or mumbled)

Feeding or swallowing challenges / Dysphagia

Trouble remembering things

Difficulty finding words or putting words into a sentence

Head and neck cancer

Stroke or traumatic brain injury recovery

Dementia/Alzheimer's related challenges

Voice disorders or vocal abuse

Caregiver Coaching

adult speech therapy

Primary caregivers are encouraged to attend adult therapy sessions. Caregiver participation and support results in increased carryover of new skills, strategies, and techniques. We provide education and training to clients, their caregivers, and family on their disorder(s), most effective and researched based techniques and approaches to intervention, and provide recommendations for other specialists and programs as appropriate. We also provide resources and support to caregivers such as respite care, information sessions, social services, counseling, and more in order to maximize the caregiver’s ability to care for themselves and their loved ones while reducing caregiver burnout.
