Indigo Burford

Speech-Language Pathologist 

Indigo received her bachelor’s degree in communication sciences and disorders from Appalachian State University and her master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from East Tennessee State University. She has a wide range of experience with both the pediatric and geriatric population treating a variety of speech, language and swallowing disorders. Throughout her experience in private practice, schools, skilled nursing facilities, outpatient settings, and inpatient rehabilitation hospitals, she has developed a passion for supporting communication in the medically complex population with an emphasis on Adaptive Assistive Technology and Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) systems. 

 

Indigo is passionate about implementation of a Total Communication approach, and engaging the interests of children to create a comfortable, fun and effective therapy environment. Family and caregiver training and collaboration is important to Indigo, as she strongly believes in the power of intentional support and collaboration. Throughout her experience, Indigo has developed clinical interest and skills in AAC, early intervention, language disorders, feeding therapy, and rehabilitative therapy. She puts an emphasis on interdisciplinary collaboration, and enjoys including other providers and disciplines in the therapy process. 

 

In her free time, Indigo enjoys spending time with her husband, son and dog. She loves reading, traveling, cooking and finding new coffee shops to try.
